Custom layouts
Draw your own zones, on one monitor or several, assign an app to each and use them as a profile's layout.
This feature is part of FluidZones Premium.
On this page
Custom layouts go beyond the built-in presets. You draw zones on a preview of your screen and assign an app to each one.
Create a layout#
- In Launch Sequence, find the Window Layout header and press Edit. Clicking the small map below it opens the editor too.
- Drag on the preview of your monitor to draw a zone, or press + Add Zone. You can have up to 10 zones per layout.
- Click a zone to configure it in the panel on the right (see below).
- Optionally set a Gap to leave space between neighboring zones.
- Name the layout and press Save Layout.
Configure a zone#
- Assign app… picks which app of the profile opens in this zone.
- Display picks the monitor, when you have more than one.
- Grid sets position and size: tap a cell or drag across several cells of the 4×4 grid.
- Size fine-tunes width (W) and height (H) as a percentage, from 5 to 100.
- Remove Zone deletes it.
The editor warns you with Overlaps another zone when two zones overlap. If an assigned app cannot be smaller than its zone, it shows how big the app needs to be and offers Fit to app minimum.
Switch and manage layouts#
The Layouts list shows your saved layouts, and you can start a New Layout from it. If you leave with unsaved changes, FluidZones asks whether to Save & Close, Discard or Cancel. Delete Layout removes a layout, and any apps using it go back to no layout.
Use it in a profile#
Under the Window Layout header, open the Scene: picker and choose your layout. ✦ New Layout… in the same picker opens the editor, and — none goes back to presets. While a custom layout is active, each row shows a read-only ✦ badge with its name instead of the preset picker.
Several monitors#
With more than one display connected, the monitors appear side by side in the editor. Draw zones on any of them and each app opens on the monitor of its zone.
If a monitor is not connected when you launch, an app with a dedicated zone on it is placed on the main screen and the launch ends with a warning instead of Scene launched!. Zones on a disconnected display are kept and come back when you reconnect it.
Tips and limits#
- Only one custom layout can be in use per profile. Assigning an app to a different custom layout clears the other apps that used another one back to no layout. Presets do not have this restriction.
- Without Premium, Edit shows a lock and opens the trial prompt. See Free vs Premium.
